Enchanted-I really was

This movie started out just like any other great Disney movie. In animated form with the hero and heroine about to meet. At this point I thought I was in so much trouble because I had dragged my father to this and I had visions of him poking his eye out.

But from the moment it went live action it in every way lived up to it's name. Enchanted indeed.

Amy Adams was so sincere in a role that just made me want to be nicer to everyone. The comedy was spot on. When she sings for some animal friends to come and help her in real life the only ones available in New York City are vermin. They do in fact heed her call and it makes for a very funny part in the movie. The movie just felt so sincere. I loved every minute from start to finish. I say run don't walk to partake of this lovely movie. I would definitely add it to my collection and plan on seeing it again this very week!

'Tis The (Movie) Season

One of my favorite things about the Holiday season is the opportunity it affords to catch up on movie watching.

I kicked off the season a bit early by going to see "Dan In Real Life". Kathy, Devry, Mallory, Lexi and I went off to the Wynnsong and partook. I really liked this show it was funny and sweet and sad all at the same time.

Thanksgiving Day the Utah Arnett clan is planning on hitting up this little gem.

If you haven't seen the previews I suggest you check it out immediately. It looks like such good fun and I can't wait!

Here is an excerpt of the conversation just had by HB and myself in regards to the above:

HB: This movie has been out for a long time. Isn't it at the dollars? Ella Enchanted.

Me: No Dad it's not Ella Enchanted it's just Enchanted.

HB: What time? 7:30? I can't go, ASU and USC are playing. Do I have to buy Lexi a ticket?

Me: Dad Mom will want to go and I'll buy Lex a ticket

HB: Hmmm someone may need to come and pick up your mom.

Me: Just buy the tickets.

I love the Holidays! I seriously do!

Thanksgiving The New Fashioned Way

Thanksgiving for our family this year will be quite small and intimate. Only 10 of us. Penee decided that maybe we should forgo the usual homemade fare in favor of someone else doing all the work. So we threw out some ideas; Provo Marriott, Mimi's (Lexi and My choices), Chuck-a-rama (HB's choice). Well we made our reservation last week at Mimi's. Hooray, now Lexi is not going through with her threatened boycott and is celebrating with us.

Here is what we will be having:

Holiday Turkey Dinner

  • Corn Chowder, French Market Onion Soup or Chicken Gumbo
  • Caesar Salad or Chilled Green Salad
  • Fresh Roasted Turkey Breast or Tender Dark Meat
  • Cornbread Stuffing with Celery, Onion & Sage
  • Homemade Mashed Potatoes
  • hipped Sweet Potatoes with Brown Sugar & Spice
  • Fresh Steamed Vegetables
  • Cranberry Relish
  • Fresh Baked Carrot Raisin Nut Bread
  • Warm Baguette
  • Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Cream, Rich Chocolate Mousse Pie or Mimis Bread Pudding
Random side notes- Going to a restaurant ended up being very fortuitous. Penee spent the weekend in the emergency room with Kidney stones and who knows when they will pass. The last thing my dear mother needs is to be worried about a Thanksgiving dinner.

Random side note 2- As we were a little late to the reservation party, our official reservation is at 10:30. I figure we won't actually be eating until around 11:15. Still a little Thanksgiving brunch never hurt anyone....right?

Feeling the Love

Within the last month I have committed to going to a Singles Ward. Up until this point I just didn't feel like I quite belonged there (translation: wasn't ready). Within the last few weeks not only have I been attending, but turns out I'm really starting to enjoy it. I met with the Bishop to renew my temple recommend and had a very lovely conversation with him in the process.

The week I got a calling on Sunday and went Visiting Teaching yesterday. I have to be honest that at times Visiting Teaching has felt like a chore. After doing Visiting Teaching last night I have to say that I truly feel very blessed. My Visiting Teaching partner is truly delightful. We spent the whole night talking and laughing. The girls we visit were so enthusiastic and I felt uplifted and refreshed for having gone and done it. I guess just overall I'm really feeling the love and I'm truly grateful.

This Weekend

This weekend I had the distinct pleasure of attending Wendy Allen's baby shower. She and Justin
are having a baby girl here in a month or so. Connie, her girls and Daughter-in-law all made some delicious Danish pancakes, bacon and sausage for the party. See how happy Kristen (the Daughter-in-law) and I look both to be there and to partake of the deliciousness?

After the fun party I went to check out a few Condos. For those of you who don't know I'm thinking about buying a place. Just something very modest, but it's still very scary!

Also Canyon Rose leaves today to go up to Idaho to be with her Hardman Grandparents and her own parents. Because we probably won't get to see her until maybe Christmas I took some photos of the mischievous little imp.

Here she is performing her favorite activity, rifling through my purse (she knows I always have gum).

Here's a cute one of her and aunt Lex.

Happy Monday everyone!!

Pics at Gardner Village

Yesterday turned out to be the perfect day for some Gardner Village fun. The weather was perfect and so was the company. Kathy, Devry, Jaxson, Penee, Canyon and I all loaded up in the Pacifica and headed out around 10:00. We headed straight for the Christmas Shoppe and all decided that if that was the only store visited the trip would still have been well worth it.

Penee and I found this delightful collection of whimsical reindeer called the dash away collection. I might have bought Penee one of these delights but which one is a secret and I will leave it for another post after the gift has been given.

We ate at delish Archibald's and of course hit up the candy store, Sweet Afton's. Here are a few pics from our day.Lindsay and Canyon enjoying the fine weather.

Kathy and Jax loving the ducks.

Gardner Village

The past couple of weeks have been a bit stressful. In order to destress and decompress I am taking tomorrow off. I'm hoping to sample some of the delights that can be found at Gardner Village. Click here for a list of their shops. Don't the names alone make you want to visit?

I'm most specially interested in The Village Christmas Shoppe and their yummy restaurant Archibald's. Let's all go! Want to come?

Random P.S. -Special thank you goes to the webmaster at Gardner Village who understands that it is in fact still fall, and does not feel rushed to skip right past Thanksgiving to Christmas.

Viva Leona!

Recently Steph introduced me to an artist I fell in love with. I think you should all check her out immediately. As Stephanie and I are currently starting a grass roots campaign to make her #2 (right after Celine)I thought I'd share a few excerpts from our conversation regarding this rising star.

Stephanie-have you heard the leona lewis song? bleeding love i think? it's so super fantastic and i believe you will/do appreciate as much as i do.

Stephanie- i heard it awhile ago and loved it but i just saw the video on perez hilton. she is so fantastic, the new celine/mariah all the way.

Stephanie- there are some absolute goose bump performances from leona on the x factor. jake and i just sat at the computer with our mouths open. amazing.

Lindsay - well clearly if this song is any indicator I am in love with her already

Stephanie- really? fantastic! her performance of all by myself is so good. just below celine's in my opinion.

Lindsay - wow that is an endorsement

Stephanie- i know right? she's that good. i bet she becomes pretty popular cuz girl can sing!

Lindsay - well I'm sold

Lindsay - we'll start our own grass roots campaign

Stephanie- leona 4 eva!

Stephanie - i'll get the shirts printed.

Lindsay - I'll make us some bumper stickers

Stephanie - november is going to be the best musical month ever. all the divas! celine, mariah, leona, love it!

Stephanie - not that leona is a diva just yet, but with some planning and earnest effort on our part she will be.

Lindsay - I think we can make this happen

Lindsay - there is nothing that the three of us can't do together

Stephanie- i could not agree more. i'll see how much a billboard will cost. you check on tv and radio time.

Lindsay- should we hire jake for PR? Sounds like he's already a fan as well?

Lindsay - he could write our press releases

Stephanie- and we'll hire people to stand on the corners with signs, like at little ceasars pizza.

Stephanie - oh yes, he's so in and got nothing but time to devote to such a worthy cause.

Stephanie - absolutely. one person not so excited? mason. apparently he would like me to feed him. he's so clingy!

Lindsay - seriously, I mean talk about needy

Stephanie- it's all about him. he's rather selfish.

Stephanie - what about my needs? and leona's?

Lindsay - You think he could take one for the team

Lindsay - especially for leona

Lindsay - I mean look at all she's given

Stephanie- i know, right? never mind the fact that i think i woke him up with the pounding bass of bleeding love.

Lindsay - all the more reason he should be thanking you

Lindsay - I'm starting to wonder about that kid

Stephanie- i know. i have got my work cut out for me. ok, let's meet up in a couple of months and get this thing going. time is of the essence.

Lindsay - yes, much planning needs to be done between then and now.

Lindsay - I'm giving my 2 week notice as we speak

Lindsay - I'll obviously need to devote my full attention

Stephanie- perfect, maybe they'll let you leave right now.

Lindsay - once they hear it's for leona

Lindsay - they won't be able to refuse me anything

Stephanie- i know, good luck. tell them it's for leona. if they don't understand, you don't need to be associating with them anyway.

Stephanie - ok, i can't wait. viva leona!

I've been Lexi-fied

I wanted a change for fall and for my much loved by me shorter hairdo. This weekend I went into the salon and came out with a darker do. Here is a sample.....Doesn't Lex do good work?

Another Party

Last night we had another jewelry party. Lexi did her part by "cleaning" her apartment. I choose to think she left a few cobwebs in the corner in honor of Halloween!

Candy, Meghan and Kenz came and we had a delightful time. Turns out Kenzie and Whitney are due 1 day apart! I love that my 2 unrelated cousins could have birthday twin babies. I anxiously await finding out the sex of both babies in the coming weeks.

The party continues tonight when Lacy and Dave arrive from AZ and get to stay for 2 weeks. It will be some in our families first peek at PenGwen for which I'm sure there is much excitement.

The next official party will be the bridal shower for Megs. Mark your calendars all you Arnett Ladies. November 2nd will be the big day to come and celebrate our newest bride to be.

Out of the Loop

I've definitely been out of the loop the last little while. Here at work we are currently switching accounting software. We had someone from the software company in our office learning our business flow for a week at the end of September.

For those of you who don't know I do Accounts Payable. What this means is that being in meetings for a full week puts you way behind. After she left I had one week to play catch up. Then last week the entire Accounting staff flew to Fort Collins, CO (beautiful btw I could totally see myself living there).

Needless to say being gone another week has put me even further behind. After arriving home on Friday night I turned around Saturday afternoon and drove with Miley to Idaho to pick up Canyon Rose. Then home again on Sunday.

Monday I arrived in the office ridiculously early to answer my millions of phone messages and try to dig out of my pile of invoices.

Still a little bit buried but finally feeling like I may be able to breathe by next week.

That's the haps with me. Hope everyone else is doing well and perhaps just a smidge less busy than myself :)

Is this guy a moron

Tyler Nelson.....Seriously? He thought this was ok? On a list of people you probably don't want to tick off in Hollywood I'd think that Steven Speilberg tops the list.

Does anyone else but me think that the quote, "Who knows whether that particular person will ever work in this town again?" is an understatement.

The Arc

I'm clearly on a roll. The gym 2 days in a row? I'm proud of my will power already.

Yesterday's visit showed me some new delights. I did some resistance training for my arms and some abs and then headed over for some tv watching and cardio. Sadly I was thwarted in my tv watching as I somehow managed to leave the house without my earphones.

On the recommendation of Dana I decides to try the Arc Trainer. This deceptively benign looking machine is anything but. At one point in the work out I was sure that my heart would burst out of my chest. After my hour long cardio session on Monday I was not one bit sore. After 30 minutes on this little beauty I needed a massage and an all over ice pack (not necessarily in that order).

Oh it's good to be a gym rat!

Gym-e Gym Gym

This weekend I joined the gym. It was time. I have been meaning to do so for about 3 months now. Last night was the season premier of Heroes. Since it conflicted with Monday night football I decided to go to the gym and watch it while I worked out.

Turns out having your first day back at the gym be an hour long cardio session? Probably not the wisest of ideas. Here's hoping any show I want to watch tonight is only 30 minutes :)

I've been tagged

The assignment is to list 5 unknown facts about me. This could be a tall order as I'm fairly certain that my life is an open book and I can't imagine what one would not know about me. Yet I will press on and do my best.

1. In ninth grade I purposely flirted shamelessly with a fellow peer tutor. Knowing full well that he was starting to like me and I did not like him I still flirted. I then strung him along for a few weeks before breaking his poor heart (he got over it). But still I was traumatized with myself for being capable of willfully and purposely hurting someone in that way.

2. Someday I want to be in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. So much so that I've researched (and been freaked out by) what it would take to do so. Let's just say I will need a) a miracle b) a singing tutor c) for Craig Jessop to be suffering from a slight ear infection when I audition. Yet still my dream persists.

3. I sometimes pretend to be better or know more about things than I actually do. It's a combination of A.S.S. and oldest child syndrome.

4. I listen to ESPN radio, NPR and other talk radio shows whilst all the time making fun of others for listening to talk radio (especially my father). It's a total guilty pleasure.

5. I love slightly racy teen trash dramas. I know I shouldn't I know they are inappropriate and I am frequently appalled at my self and yet I have not been able to overcome my weakness. Latest show I'll be pretending not to watch (while secretly not missing an episode). Gossip Girl on the the new CW.

Visit from the Windy City

My good friend Jodie is in town for the week. I miss her and haven't seen her since January of this year. It was so good to get together. I got to see her gorgeous baby Henry and we went out and had sushi and just talked and talked last night.

She will be moving to Utah for a few months starting in November while her husband does some recruiting for work and I couldn't be more excited about it. On tap this week is a fondue party with the Borg's (Jared and Jodie) and the Taufer's (Brett and Julie).

It's like an Eclipse reunion. Who would have thought that the biggest blessings to come out of that job would be my 2 dear friends. It's a beautiful thing how the Lord puts us in specific places to receive specific blessings. I'm always amazed at how mindful he is of me and truly grateful for all the blessings I have.

In Other News

I went to a singles ward for church yesterday. Haven't really been to one since I've been home. The lesson in the 3rd hour. Marriage and how to steps to making yours better.

I thought the teacher was really well prepared and had some good insights and adjustments to the lesson for all us singles.Really though, is there anything more entertaining then a bunch of singles talking about marriage. I honestly don't think so.
